Professor Jan F. Żmudziński, DVM, PhD, ScD, is the head of the department of Virology of PANSTWOWY INSTYTUT W since 1990. He is a lecturer for postgraduate students with expertise on a number of viral diseases that affect cattle, horses, and wild life, including rabies. He is a member of the European Society for Veterinary Virologists, the Polish Society of Veterinary Sciences and the Polish Society of Microbiologists. He has authored and co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed papers published in national and international journals and mentored several PhD students. Due to his commitment and laboratory investigations the system for BSE testing/detection was established in Poland in 2001.
